Nathan Hallett-Young described Bristol Rovers Women 3-2 loss to 10-player Keynsham Town as “frustrating,” as the Gas Girls saw their three game winning run in the league come to an end.
“From the 40th minute couldn’t tell you what happened, I think there was a lot of chaos that ensued and we just turned that corner, blinked and it was two all,”
There was a sending off which could have swung the pendulum in favour of the Gas women as they saw the player advantage for the final minutes of the game.
“It’s frustrating, we have the extra player for the last 25 minutes, towards the end of the game and you don’t make it count as we should have, we shouldn’t have been shooting from 34 yards at points, I think we just got a bit desperate. That controlling the higher line, in the middle third we was clearly there.”
The Gas had started the fixture off well, 2-0 up in the first 35 minutes but succumbed to defeat after two late goals in the first half equalled the fixture up.
“I think for us it was a bit of a shock, so we had to regroup get into half time but it was frustrating to be two all at half time. Conversations in the changing room was very simple we were clearly in control.”
Rovers Women went into the second half rejuvenised and ready to take the fight to Keynsham. “We started brightly, and then we are done on the transition.”
“I think there was some miscommunications in our backline which ultimately has led to their third goal, it’s been an interesting one.”
Gas Women didn’t stop their as the manager changed the system to chase a third and equalise the game. “I think either way both sides we were definitely in control of the later stages of the game.”
Speaking on the chances in front of goal he elaborated, “Only thing is we weren’t taking chances we weren’t kind of punishing them for having the player down.”
“There were extra players over we could have utilised and we didn’t so it was a bit wasteful, there’s things we really need to look at and remind and go back forwards with the girls to next week but ultimately its one of those games it just doesn’t fall your way, credit to Keynsham they defended very well for the last 25 minutes.”
This game holds Rovers to fifth in the Division One South West league whereas Keynsham move up to eighth in the table. Rovers will be looking ahead to their FA Cup fixture away at Abington United, hoping to forget their woes in front of goal.
