Swindon Town confirm loan signing of Manchester United winger, reject proposals for forward and Michael Olakigbe turns down Brazil – Robins deadline day roundup

With the January transfer window slamming shut at 7pm, Swindon Town will be looking to add to their squad as they continue their hunt for promotion to League One.

Despite just one arrival, it has been a busy Monday for the Robins. Here is the latest:

James Scanlon

Swindon Town have confirmed the deadline day loan signing of Manchester United’s young winger James Scanlon.

Due to the departure of Finley Munroe, Ian Holloway has looked to recoup some of the talent the team was missing.

It will be Swindon’s fifth signing so far in January as they look to continue their push for promotion to League One.

The 19-year-old winger already has 20 caps and two goals for Gibraltar and is ready for senior football, having been a regular for United’s academy sides.

He has eight goals and five assists in 47 games for the under-21s, after being prolific for the under-18s since joining from Derby County in 2021.

Aaron Drinan

Swindon Town have rejected two bids from Salford City for striker Aaron Drinan, the bids were reported to be around £250,000 and £400,000.

Drinan is currently League Two’s top goal scorer with 22 goals in all competitions and with the Robins only three points off the automatic spots, they will be looking to keep their star striker.

Michael Olakigbe

Brentford loanee and Swindon Town winger Michael Olakigbe rejected a proposal that could have seen him playing in Brazil as both parent clubs agreed on a fee.

The 21-year-old rejected the lucrative proposal to stay at the Robins as the offer came just days after he moved to Wiltshire.

The forward has featured heavily since joining in January, with Holloway describing him as exactly what the team needed.

Further arrivals

Swindon remain hopeful of adding at least one more player to their ranks, which is expected to be a new left-back, as the Robins look to replace Finlay Munroe.

Jake Batty from Blackburn Rovers is one player on the shortlist, but there is also optimism that there will be another arrival, with Sam Morshead claiming the rumour as ‘fascinating’.
