Charlie Methven has joined Southern League Premier South league leaders Walton and Hersham ahead of Gloucester City fixture.
The Swans announced Methven as their new Non-Executive Director and Strategic Adviser, having previously worked at Oxford United, Sunderland and Charlton Athletic in various executive board roles.

In June 2019, the club were taken over by a consortium of seven young people donning themselves the ‘youngest owners in world football’, adding Chris Corey in May 2023 as president and owner.
On the appointment, Corey added, “Charlie has been informally advising us for quite some time, so this appointment really just firms up the relationship. Charlie’s experience in building and improving football clubs is second to none.
“As we stand at this exciting and critical stage in the club’s future, his help in the coming months will be hugely valued in planning the next stages in Walton & Hersham’s development.” Via the club’s channels.
Walton & Hersham’s prominent strategy has revolved around media coverage, with national and international coverage documenting the club’s direction since 2019.
Metheven featured in Sunderland’s Netflix documentary ‘Sunderland ‘Til I Die’, which covered that takeover. During his time with the Black Cats, he helped them achieve the highest average and highest single attendance in the third tier, as well as achieving the highest revenue in League One history.
The former Sunderland Executive Director highlighted his admiration for the club’s work alongside the prospect of its development, “I’ve been so impressed by what Chris [Corey], Calogero Scannella and many others at Walton & Hersham have achieved over the last few years.
“Clearly, the ambition is to get promoted to National League South, but also to plan thoughtfully for the future, so that the Swans can continue to develop their role as a major part of the local community.
“The next six months will be spent helping the rest of the Board put that plan together.”
The Swans welcome Dafydd Williams’ Gloucester City to the Elmbridge Xcel Sports Hub in a game which could see the Tigers move into second, closing the gap between themselves and tomorrow’s hosts with the Swans having lost their last two league fixtures.
