Longlevens AFC co-manager, Peter Boyle, is delighted with how “brilliant” his team played during their 1-0 win at home to high-flying Slimbridge AFC on Saturday.
Boyle was particularly satisfied with how well his team executed the game plan set out by himself and fellow co-manager Buster Davies.
“We deserved it. We always say before a game, if we play well and apply every message that we give them, then we’ll win.
“We’ve proven that now, against Raiders, against these and even against them in the FA Vase, we can beat anyone in this league, let alone just compete with them.”

It was a feisty fixture, with the referee handing out five bookings within the first 36 minutes of the game.
“A couple of the yellows could actually be red ones. I felt as though, if those fouls were committed later on in the game, then they might have been given as a red.
“Fin (Gwillim) was in on goal and was brought down. It’s always gonna be a feisty game, it’s two teams who are very good and who want to beat each other. To be honest, it wasn’t a surprise after the Vase game”
Boyle’s side were reduced to 10 men in the 57th minute after Jack Beardsell received a second yellow card for supposedly throwing the ball away.
“We had to tweak a few things when Jack got sent off, but it didn’t change anything. If anything, we were more solid with 10 men.
“That’s down to the lads taking on instructions, we’ve done a lot of tactical work in training, and it’s showing.”

In true, November in non-league fashion, it was a scrappy, wet and muddy affair – something which played to Longlevens’ strengths.
“We said at half time, there wasn’t going to be anything tactically that would win or lose us the game, it was purely the horrible side of football.
“We’re getting to that time of year now where the pitch is starting to cut up. The lads were absolutely brilliant with second balls, which won us the game today.”
This marks the first of three fixtures in a week for Levens, as they host Stratford in the Wiseman Lighting Floodlit Cup and then travel to Mangotsfield United on Saturday.
“It’ll be a good opportunity to see lads who maybe haven’t got the game time they will have wanted recently.
“With that said, though, we have a really strong squad, so we can rotate, but whoever is out, we’re confident we can win.”
