England Rugby call up: Gloucester Rugby

England rugby coach, Eddie Jones has announced a 28 man strong squad for the upcoming Autumn games, including six Gloucester Rugby players.

Jones and the squad will meet up next week for a three-day training camp ahead of the Autumn games, including the Quilter Cup and the final of the Guinness Six Nations which was disrupted due to COVID.

Momentarily, players from Sale, Exeter, Bristol, Bath, Wasps and Worcester are not available for selection due to club commitments.

An updated and confirmed squad will be announced after the first training camp.

Jones has selected six Gloucester Rugby players within the training squad.

Willi Heinz

One of the older players in the squad at 33, New Zealand born Willi Heinz was selected for the 2020 Six Nations squad at the start of the year.

The scrum half player has captained Gloucester win the 2017/18 season and lead him to make his England debut in 2019 and was later called up into England World Cup, helping them get to the final against South Africa.

Unfortunatley, Heinz missed out on the final due to injury.

Jonny May

Local player, Jonny May signed back to Gloucester Rugby at the start of the season from Leicester Tigers where he played for the past three years.

Prior to this, May was at Gloucester from 2009 to 2017.

The winger has made a huge impact in the England squad over the past few years with his fast pace and tries conceded, he was the top try scorer in the 2019 Six Nations.

May is seen as one of the best players that the England rugby squad has to date.

Ollie Thorley

24 year old, Ollie Thorley is one of twelve players in the England squad that is uncapped, despite being called up for the 2019 and 2020 England squad.

Thorley made his first appearance for Gloucester rugby at the age of 17, making him the youngest player to feature in a Gloucester game.

Thorley represented England in the U20’s world championships in 2016, winning the competition.

Hopefully the centre player will be able to make his first appearance this time around.

Jack Clement

19-year-old, Jack Clement is another one of the twelve players that are uncapped.

Despite being one of the young players in the team, Clement has captained his college team and represented England in the U18’s Aon International Series in 2018.

Lewis Ludlow

Gloucester player since 2015, Lewis Ludlow has developed well within the Cherry and White, now regularly captaining the team.

Featuring in thirteen games since January, Ludlow has been a great part of the team with an 87% success rate on tackles.

The flanker represented England in the U18’s tour of South Africa in 2013.

Despite not having made his senior England debut, Ludlow is more than capable of stepping up to Eddie Jones’ squad.

Jack Singleton

Jack Singleton is currently on loan from Scaracens to Gloucester in a season long deal.

The hooker has made 31 appearances for Worcester Warriors, collecting ‘Clubs Young Player of the season’ in the 2016-2017 season.

The 3 cap player has represented England against the Barbarians in 2017 and in 2018, joined the squad on their first our of South Africa.
