WOMENS ENGLAND RUGBY SEVENS: Weekend’s results and what this means for England’s Gloucestershire influenced squad

The England women Rugby Sevens side finished 8th in the USA round of the World Series this weekend in Colorado.

New Zealand currently sit top of the table after the first round with 20 points while England’s 8th position means that they go into the second round with just six points.

Every team played six matches over the weekend but England could only manage to win two of these. One of these wins came against the host nation USA who actually found themselves in 2nd come the end of the weekend. England also lost to New Zealand.

Following this first round the Women’s Sevens World Series will move over to Dubai for its second outing of the year in the Women’s game.

There was quite a lot of Gloucestershire interest over in Colorado. These players have mostly impressed for England recently and are expected to continue their run in the side.

Gloucester-Hartpury teenager player Ellie Kildunne is excelling across the pond, and has the most tries and joint-most points scored for England at the tournament.

Holly Aitchinson is another player who is currently based in Gloucestershire, with the 21-year-old studying sports performance at Hartpury College.

As well as Kildunne and Aitchinson, youngster Abigail Burton also went to Hartpury college, although she now plays for Gloucester-Hartpury.

Finally, Natasha Hunt was born in Gloucester and attended Hartpury college. She is the most experienced Gloucestershire-based player, at the age of 29.

The next round in Dubai is set to take place between the 29th and 30th of November.
