Jack Woodard is an MMA fighter based in Gloucester and has just recently defended his 80kg South West Area Championship.
Woodard defeated Tyler James with a first-round TKO to retain his title in Weston Super Mare on Saturday.
This was Woodard’s first time defending the title since winning it 7 months ago.
This may have been a big title fight for the Gloucester fighter but he still fought rather early on the card.
“I had two teammates also fighting so it was good to really just get out there, fight and then chill and support my team,” said Woodard.
More to follow on this story throughout the day on Park Life Sport.
“The fight itself actually went according to plan, I’m not going to say it was the perfect performance but it went very well,” said Woodard.
For an amateur fighter, Woodard brings with him a substantial crowd to his fights.
Jack sold almost 70 tickets for the fight which meant he had a lot of supporters making the almost 2 hour trip to Weston Super Mare.
“I feel like I always bring a crowd because of the amount of people that support me, that’s what means most, all those people coming to watch me.
“Win, lose or draw I have that support and that means more to me than winning,” said Jack.
Winning the fight was important for Jack but how he won the fight meant a lot to the young Gloucester las also.
“I beat him at his own game you know, winning a fight is great but beating someone as something they are supposed to be better than you at is a great feeling and makes the win feel all the more rewarding.”
Woodard is looking on to the next phase of his career now after finishing university.
“Now I’m finished with uni I can focus on fighting for a bit, I really want to fight for a British title next not just an area one.”
