TWITTER TRIBUTE: Much loved football commentator, Peter Brackley, dies aged 67

Tributes have been pouring in via social media following the death of the ‘voice of Italian football’, Peter Brackley, after suffering with an illness.

Brackley is most famous for his commentary on the Italian Serie A through the 90s for Channel 4 and his work with broadcasters Sky, ITV and the BBC.

Many big names in the TV and footballing world took to twitter yesterday to pay their tributes to the man who many will consider one of the best of his time.

Various members of the industry were full of fond memories, including current BBC commentators, Steve Wilson and Match of the Day presenter, Gary Lineker;

Brackley also produced commentary for the computer game, Pro-Evolution Soccer (PES) up until the 2006 edition. Their official account took to twitter to pay their own tribute.

But it will be Channel 4’s coverage of the Serie A that Peter will be remembered most fondly for, as he oversaw the start of FootballItalia following Paul Gascoigne’s ground-breaking transfer to Lazio in 1992 and was the voice of Italian football in this country for a decade.
