The Hundred Draft: Who? What? Where? When?

The Hundred – a new 100-ball cricket tournament – took place on Sunday evening and here is everything you need to know

This is the new brain child of the English and Wales Cricket Board where the teams are made up of some of the worlds best white-ball players .

There will be a men’s and women’s squad with the competitions running alongside each other.

There are eight teams made up of 15 players. The players are all priced in different category’s based on their ability and record.  

There are seven different salary bands and two players will be picked from each of the following: £125k, £100k, £75k, £60k, £50k, £40k and £30k.

In the women’s competition, the salary brackets range from £15k to £3,600.

In total there were 570 players who put themselves forward for the team selections. This included 331 domestic and 239 overseas players.

What is it?

Forget the traditional six-ball over. The Hundred is a made up from a 100-ball innings which means where will be a 10-ball ‘over’.

Sanjay Patel, Managing Director of The Hundred said: ‘We now have eight quality men’s teams and eight more world class women’s players confirmed to feature in The Hundred next summer. The Hundred Draft was an incredible way to put the men’s teams together – another great historical moment for British sport this year.’

Who will be playing?

The eight teams are: Trent Rockets, Southern Brave, Northern Superchargers, Welsh Fire, Oval Invincibles, Manchester Originals, London Spirit and finally Birmingham Phoenix.

There are three England red-ball contracted players and ‘local icons’ who started out the teams before the draft went ahead. The teams must also include a minimum of three overseas players.

What about the women’s draft?

Two women have already been signed by each franchise, with the remaining 13 spaces in their squads selected across three different player pools: the remaining England players, overseas players and domestic players.

Each team has the chance to sign one more England centrally contracted player and three overseas stars.

What are the rules?

The match will last two-and-a-half hours.

Who ever scores the most runs wins but there are only 100 balls.

Each bowler will only be able to bowl 20 balls per game. The captain will get to decide if the player will bowl. Five to 10 of the balls will be delivered consecutively.

Each bowling side will get a strategic timeout of up to two-and-a-half minutes.

The fielding side changes ends after 10 balls.

The coach will be able to walk out to the middle of the ground to discuss tactics with their players mid-game.

Each team will get a 25-ball powerplay. Two fielders will be allowed outside of the 30-yard circle during the powerplay.

The competition will take place summer 2020 from the 17 July to 16 August
