Exeter City put on a dominant display to run out 3-0 winners against Cheltenham Town in their League Two fixture at St James Park.
Reuben Reid’s late first half penalty saw Exeter go into half time with a one goal advantage.
After the break The Grecians picked up from where they left off to complete the scoring through a second goal from Reid and another from Jake Taylor.
The result means that Gary Johnson’s men drop down to 22nd in the table, seven points clear of the relegation zone.
Jack Barthram had the first effort of the game for Cheltenham after a few minutes when he made a long run from inside his own half before unleashing a shot that was deflected narrowly wide of the Exeter goal.
Though the home side were having plenty of the ball and looking dangerous in attack, they were struggling to create clear cut opportunities early in the game.
In fact, the next chance actually came for The Robins as a cleared corner fell into the path of James Dayton, and he took on a few defenders before whipping in a cross that was deflected onto the crossbar and away.
With 35 minutes on the clock The Grecians had their first real go at goal when Ryan Harley let fly with a volley from outside the box, but it was gathered easily by Brown.
And Harley went close again a few minutes later when a goalmouth scramble fell to the Exeter player, but his shot was superbly headed off the line by Emmanuel Onariase.
Two minutes before half time Exeter opened the scoring when David Wheeler was brought down inside the box, and Reid stepped up to send Brown the wrong way from the penalty spot.
In first half stoppage time Cheltenham had a huge chance to equalise when a cross found Barthram at the back post, but he couldn’t guide his effort anywhere other than well wide to mean that Exeter were a goal up at the break.
After the interval it took just five minutes for the home side to double their lead when Taylor played the ball into Reid, who smashed it past Brown from inside the area.
And soon after Exeter got their third goal of the evening when Taylor had a go from just outside the box, and his shot was deflected into the bottom corner by the unfortunate Onariase.
Jack Munns and Billy Waters both went close to pulling a goal back for Cheltenham in the final quarter of an hour, but in the end they couldn’t find the back of the net and the three points stayed in Devon.
