REPORT: Bishops Cleeve score 96th minute equaliser to draw 3-3 with Holmer Green

An equaliser from Bishops Cleeve in the 96th minute ruled out an 88th minute penalty from Gary Lines to give both sides a share of the points.

The penalty came after Bishops Cleeve thought the game should’ve been stopped for a foul on centre back Ryan New, before Aaron Drake brought someone down in the box.

Earlier goals from Dean Munday and Elliot Britton for Holmer Green and Ieuan Crowe and Kevin Slack for Bishops Cleve had the game tied at 2-2

The late equaliser means Bishops Cleeve stay 4th in the the UHL Premier Division, whilst Holmer Green remain 9th.

Conditions were very windy, but Bishops Cleeve were happy to get the go ahead for this afternoon’s game. The Mitres have only played twice since January 26th with poor weather conditions effecting fixtures up and down the UHL Premier Division.

Elliot Kennedy created the first chance for Cleeve, he found himself in space on the right, he whipped the ball in towards Kevin Slack, but the forward couldn’t get on the end of it.

Holmer Green’s first chance was their first goal, Dean Munday leaping onto a corner and heading over Lewis Clayton in goal.

The first 15 minutes was busy with Ryan New bringing down an oncoming Holmer Green forward to concede a penalty. The spot kick was well saved by Clayton.

Ieuan Crowe then came forward for Bishops Cleeve, firing towards Aaron Brown in goal for the visitors, the shot went well wide

Cleeve began to find their way back into the game, their next shot on target was an equalising goal. Ieuan Crowe got onto a parried shot from Harisson Iddles and tapped into the empty net.

The next goal came just before half time, Bishop’s Cleeve taking the lead with a minute to go, an Elliot Kennedy corner was met and headed in by Kevin Slack.

The start of the second half was as cagey as the start of the first, Cleeve were battling to assert their dominance but with the strong winds blowing towards to Cleeve goal, one ball over the top looked like it could make all the difference.

Cleeve began to play against the wind better than Holmer Green did in the first half, playing two touch across the back line.

20 minutes into the second half and a shot still hadn’t come in for either side, the wind meaning the car park was seeing more balls than either goalkeeper.

The first shot of the second half ended up being the leveller, Elliot Britton got onto a loose ball in the 74th minute to strike home for Holmer Green.

Cleeve then came is search of another goal, in an attempt to regain the lead, Jacob Davidge got down the line, he crossed to Elliot Kennedy who struck at goal but his shot hit the post.

Then Holmer Green got their second penalty of the afternoon, there were complaints from Cleeve players as Ryan New went down injured, he was eventually stretchered off. The ref didn’t stop play however and the away side attacked, Aaron Drake then brought down a Holmer Green forward, giving the away side the spot kick.

Gary Lines stepped up and buried the spot kick.

There was still more drama, Lee Llewellyn saw red for a foul on Michael Ford.

Cleeve then came back, in the 96th minute the ball was bundled into the back of the net.

That was the last action on a busy evening at Kayte lane.
