Clash of the Heavyweights?
Ahead of this weekend’s top of the table clash between Evesham United and Salisbury FC both team’s will be hoping to leave the Jubilee Stadium with nothing less than a win in the Evo-Stik League South.
Both sides go into the game in fine form having recorded back to back victories in their last two league meetings.
The visitor’s boast of a solid away record after recording a 3-1 victory against struggling Bishop’s Cleeve in their last league meeting as Steve Claridge’s men will be hoping that his team can continue to impress with their new found momentum.
The hosts also have reasons to be optimistic, as they have also won in their last two Southern League matches after beating both Slimbridge and Bristol Manor Farm respectively.
The home side will be keen for club captain and talisman Matt Liddiard to add to his impressive tally of 17 goals this season – the former Gloucester City man joined The Robins back in 2017 after enjoying four successful seasons with his parent club.
After winning five out of their opening six league games, the home side since had to endure a difficult run of results after claiming just one victory in the subsequent seven domestic meetings.
However since the turn of the year fortunes have changed for Paul Collicut’s men and the club will now be hoping to push for promotion with their nine remaining games left of the domestic campaign.
Battle of the Goalscorers
As two heavyweights of the division go head to head in a crucial game of the season it will also be a battle of the top goalscorers. Stuart Green has already netted an impressive 11 goals for the visitors since the start of the season, whereas the home side’s Liddiard is also in good form for the team in red and white.
When the two sides met back in October the result finished as a 0-0 draw however with the attacking prowess that both teams have shown in recent weeks this weekend’s game is unlikely to disappoint.
