PREVIEW: Bury v Cheltenham Town

Cheltenham beat Newport 2-1 in their last outing at the Jonny Rocks stadium, which was their first home victory of the season.

A win for Cheltenham could lift The Robins as high as 20th, but more importantly it’d be three points further away from the relegation zone, where they’ve floundered since the start of the season.

Bury are on identical form to Cheltenham, and will look to break into the promotion play-off spots or even into 3rd – only two points separate Colchester in 3rd and Gloucestershire outfit Forest Green Rovers in 10th.

Michael Duff will be without Kevin Dawson and Sean Long, while Jacob Maddox remains doubtful having missed the last two games. Bury boss Ryan Lowe is only missing Caolan Lavery, who is a long-term absentee.

The sides have traded wins evenly in the past, but Cheltenham have won in four of their last five visits to Gigg Lane.

Cheltenham Town will have to break down a resilient Bury defence, as the Manchester-based side have only conceded 20 goals this season, 11 fewer than Newport who look down on them in 5th.

Before the game, Michael Duff said:

“I think Bury are a good team.

“The players are aware of how good they are but we’ve just beaten a team that’s 3rd in the league.

“We’ve conceded one goal in five games, so we’re not bad at keeping the ball out of the net so Tuesday will be a real challenge.

“Can we do it away from home? We’ll wait and see but we’re trying our best.

“At the end of the day it’s another three points. Can you put another marker down? Can you go back to back to back. We’ll wait and see.”
