POSTPONED: Cheltenham Town and Forest Green’s weekend fixtures fall victim to wintry weather

Both Gloucestershire Football League clubs had their League Two games postponed this weekend, as snow hit all corners of the UK.

Cheltenham Town’s fixture against Cambridge United was postponed after an inspection deemed areas of the Jonny-Rocks pitch unplayable.

The heavy snow also saw Forest Green Rovers’ trip to Swindon Town cancelled due to the areas surrounding the County Ground being deemed unsafe for both home and away fans – despite the best efforts of Swindon’s ground staff and volunteers clearing the pitch to a playable state.

The postponements give Michael Duff’s side an extended rest in time for their midweek six-pointer against Yeovil Town, who sit two places below them in 21st.

Duff was not too happy with the weather and it’s hindrance on his team’s match preparation, but thanks local Winchcombe Secondary School for allowing his team to use their 3G facilities.

“It is what it is. Footballers moan but we got on with it and went to Winchcombe school to use their 3G surface.

“We’re grateful for the relationship that we’ve got with them but and it allows you to get some football work into them, so they’ve got to get in the car and travel 20 minutes but it’s not the end of the world.”

Mark Cooper’s Forest Green are without a midweek fixture, so they will have to wait for a visit from Notts County this Saturday to return to the pitch.

Neither fixture has been rescheduled as of yet, with new dates expected to be announced later in the week.
