Gloucestershire Police have issued a statement saying that they are investigating an allegation of racial abuse from Forest Green’s game against Scunthorpe United.
The game on Saturday was briefly paused after an allegation from Scunthorpe’s Jordan Clarke that he had been a target of racial abuse from a Forest Green supporter.
The Gloucestershire Police have said:
“Gloucestershire Constabulary can confirm that we have received a report of racial abused which was aimed at a player during Saturday’s game between Forest Green Rovers and Scunthorpe United.
“We are working alongside both Forest Green Rovers to carry out an investigation.”
Forest Green did put a statement out on social media immediately after the game saying they ‘do not tolerate racism, and the ongoing investigation will end with a lifetime ban if found guilty’.
The referee stopped play to inform both managers of the allegation before a tannoy announcement about the incident.
Both sets of players and the referee decided against going off the field of play and abandoning the game which Scunthorpe went on to win 2-0.
