Women’s football weekend was deemed “absolutely momentous” with more than 70,000 people turning out to games in the Women’s Super League.
Four out of 6 fixtures were played at Premier League and Championship grounds, breaking two WSL records on Sunday.
38,262 attended The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Spurs beaten by north London rivals Arsenal, while Anfield, hosting its first-ever WSL match, welcomed 23,500 for the Merseyside derby between Liverpool and Everton.
Chelsea women’s home ground Kingsmeadow saw a record crowd – the 4,790 sell-out saw the blues beat Manchester United 1-0, making it the new best attendance for a WSL game held at a non-Premier League stadium.
