Manchester United secured their third win in a row in all competitions with an important victory over Champions League rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford in the Premier League.
It was Mourinho’s men, 3-2 winners over Crystal Palace on Monday , who edged the tightly-contested encounter , and two goals from Marcus Rashford further cemented their 2nd-placed position in the table.
A Romelu Lukaku flick-on found the young England international forward, who raced behind Klopp’s defence before cutting inside and firing past Loris Karius to score the opener with 14 minutes gone.
Rashford then scored his second with the help of a deflection as his low shot bamboozled the Liverpool goalkeeper.
The visitors wasted clear-cut chances through defender Van Djik, who had two headers squandered, before Eric Bailey’s calamatious own goal gifted the Reds a chance of a comeback in the 65th minute.
But Liverpool were unable to find an equaliser, despite largely dominating thereafter.
