Match Report: Cheltenham Town 1-1 Chesterfield

A cold and snowy day at the LCI Rail Stadium sees a point shared between Cheltenham and Chesterfield in a 1-1 draw in SkyBet League Two.

Both sides failed to create much in the opening half. There wasn’t a great deal of action in the second half until the Spireites took the lead in the 74th minute through Kristian Dennis.

The Robins responded well as substitute Brian Graham scored with his first touch of the game to bring the hosts level.

Gary Johnson named an unchanged side from the victory against Swindon but Harry Pell returned to the bench after a two match suspension.

The bottom of the league side didn’t offer much in the early exchanges of the game as the hosts enjoyed most of the possession.

The first chance came through Mo Eisa who was put through brilliantly by Carl Winchester. Aaron Ramsdale was called into action making an excellent one handed save and Jake Andrews almost made contact from the rebound.

Cheltenham almost gave the Spireites an easy lead after the ball was pumped into the box which Jamie Grimes failed to head away but fortunately Dennis couldn’t latch onto the loose ball which saw Will Boyle clear the danger.

Neither of the teams started the second half with real urgency and no clear chances were created.

Andy Kellett hoofed the ball up into the Robins area which saw deja vu from the first half as Grimes failed to clear again and this time Dennis punished them putting the ball through Flinders legs.

The home supporters urged Johnson to bring on attacking substitutions and that he did, Brian Graham came on to replace Kevin Dawson. Morell put a dangerous ball into the box which Graham latched onto and scored with his first touch of the game.

The goal set up an interesting final ten minutes, Ilias Chatzitheodoridis struck a swerving shot over when he burst down the left with real intent.

Louis Dodds put a lofted ball into the box which was carried by the wind which could’ve resulted in a late winner for Chesterfield, the whistle was blown and honours were even.
