LEAGUE TWO: Forest Green return to winning ways against Colchester

Forest Green returned to winning ways last night with a comfortable 3-0 away win at League Two play-off rivals Colchester United.

Liam Shepard and Reece Brown gave the visitors a two goal lead in the first half, before Christian Doidge completed a comfortable night late on.

The result see’s Forest Green climb above Colchester into sixth place on goal difference, ending a run of three straight defeats. Mark Coopers side will be hoping for two from two when they host Carisle on Saturday.

Speaking after the game, Cooper said: “If you don’t have fight, spirit, desire, it doesn’t matter what the game plan is. However you want to play, long ball or short ball, you can’t win games of football. And tonight that was there in abundance.”

Frank Nouble was sent off five minutes from time in a poor night for Colchester. They will look to bounce back against Exeter at the weekend.

Former Wigan Athletic, Fulham, and Hull City player and Soccer AM co-host Jimmy Bullard took to social media praising Forest Greens play leading to the second goal.
