Local Grade One winning trainer Fergal O’Brien is set to move to Ravenswill Farm in Withington should Cotswold District Council approve the plans. The move will allow O’Brien to house up to 80 horses alongside having three gallops on a 550-acre site.
The trainer of Poetic Rythm (who won the Challow Novices’ Hurdle last year) wanted to remain in the Cotswolds where most of his horse ownership is based.
O’Brien will however remain at Grange Hill Farm for the upcoming national hunt season, the site he shares with trainer Nigel Twiston Davis.
The current owner of Ravenswill Farm is former Southampton FC Chairman Rupert Lowe who was the Saints chairman between 1996 and 2006.
If we get planning permission, it will be a fantastic place with great facilities,” O’Brien told Gloucestershire Live.
Local Horse Racing fans will be delighted that O’Brien is staying in the county as it has been estimated that horses and their costs are worth £54 million to the county.
Horse Racing returns to Cheltenham at the end of the month. The Showcase meeting takes place over 26th and 27th of October with strong cards expected.
