Gloucester riding the wave into Europe

Gloucester go into their European double header with La Rochelle off the back of a five point win against Premiership strugglers Bristol.

After a poor first half that saw the Cherry and Whites go in at the break 6-0 down, an impressive second half ended with David Humphreys’ men securing a bonus point 28-16 win.

This result, coupled with the six points taken from Wasps and Saracens in previous weeks, has pushed Gloucester up to eighth in the table.  screen-shot-2016-12-05-at-13-02-11

The Cherry and Whites have used the international break as a chance to push on in the Premiership, leapfrogging Northampton Saints and Sale Sharks in the last fortnight.

With teams like Wasps and Saracens missing many of their starting players, Gloucester have seized their chance and generated some momentum to take into the upcoming European fixtures.

Their opponents this Thursday will be no pushover, however. French outfit La Rochelle have already registered draws against European giants Toulon and Champions Cup runners-up Racing 92 so far this season.

La Rochelle also faced off against Gloucester in this competition last season, with the Cherry and Whites winning both encounters.

With notable former Southern Hemisphere stars like Victor Vito and Jason Eaton in their line up, as well as French international Uini Atonio in the front row, La Rochelle are certainly not to be underestimated.

Gloucester will be happy to have Jonny May back from a very successful Autumn international series with England, which included a man-of-the-match display against Argentina.

The home tie takes place at Kingsholm this Thursday, with the return game scheduled for the 17th December.
