Forest Green could be in the third round of the FA Cup for just the third-ever time if they can achieve a result at Brunton Park in just over a week.
Rovers have not reached the FA Cup third round since 2009/10 when they were beaten away at Notts County. The season before, Forest Green made the third round for the first time but were beaten 4-3 by Derby County.

Rovers forced the replay when Gethin Jones scored an own goal from a dangerous Liam Kitching cross with just over 10 minutes to go as Rovers immediately pegged Carlisle back after Nathan Thomas scored his second goal of the game.
Aaron Collins initially gave Mark Cooper’s men the lead following a mistake from the Cumbrians goalkeeper Adam Collin, but Thomas scored a fine solo effort to level the game just before the half-time whistle.
In recent seasons, Rovers have struggled in the FA Cup in the last few seasons – most recently losing to 3-0 in a first round replay to Oxford United – with a second round replay defeat to Exeter City the season before.
Forest Green cruised through to the second round with a convincing 4-0 victory over non-league Billericay Town at The New Lawn.
Rovers’ trip to Carlisle will take place on Tuesday, December 10 and the winner of the tie at Brunton Park will be into the third round, with the games set to be played on the weekend of January 4, 2020.
Carlisle have just appointed Chris Beech as their new manager following the departure of Steven Pressley just days before. It was Beech’s first game as the Cumbrians’ boss on Saturday and the visitors did well against a high-flying Forest Green side.
The Third-Round
Forest Green Rovers will travel to Championship side Cardiff City in the FA Cup third round, if they manage to beat Carlisle United in the second round replay on Tuesday.
If Rovers are to get through, they will come up against the Welsh team, who are currently two divisions above them in the Football League.
This would be a massive tie for Forest Green, against opponents who were relegated from the Premier League just last season.
