FA Cup first round preview: Cheltenham Town v Maidstone United

This Saturday marks the return of the first round proper of the FA Cup which will see Cheltenham Town host National League side Maidstone United at the LCI Rail Stadium.

Gary Johnson’s men go into the tie on the back of a thrilling 3-3 draw away at Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday. The result saw the Robins move up to 15th place in League Two and six points behind Newport county in 6th.

They take on an in-form Maidstone United side who are currently 5th in the National League. Just 14 places below the Robins in the English football league pyramid.

The Stones last match saw them run out 1-0 winners at home to fellow National League side Chester. A result which sees them just four points behind league leaders Dover Athletic with a game in hand.

Remarkably this will be the first ever encounter between the two sides since the club reformed in 1992. The original Maidstone United folded due to bankruptcy and were subsequently kicked out of the football league.

The game will also be broadcast live on radio station TALKSPORT with it being one of the stand out fixtures of the first round.
