Despite needing to avoid defeat to confirm their top six seed position, it was a slow start before Harry Winks opened the scoring for England with composed finish for his first international goal.

Kosovo, who were already out of contention to qualify for the play-offs, came close throughout the game, with captain Amir Rrahmani heading wide of an empty net and dangerman Valon Berisha firing wide.

England had to wait until the 79th minute for their second goal as Harry Kane finished well from close range. That goal maintained his record of scoring in all eight qualifiers.

Substitute Marcus Rashford added a third with a superb finish into the bottom corner with seven minutes left to wrap up the game.

Mason Mount scored his first international goal at senior level in stoppage time after a defensive error to add to the flattering score-line.

England’s players received a great welcome from the Kosovo supporters for the part the UK government played in the 1999 liberation of Kosovo.

During the English national anthem, the home end held up St. George’s flag cards and revealed a large flag before kick-off.

The Kosovo fans also greeted the England team announcement with cheers for every player, a stark contrast to the racist abuse England faced in Montenegro and Bulgaria.

England top group A winning seven out of eight games in qualifying, scoring 37 goals.
