Delta Work is now the favourite for the Cheltenham Gold Cup next month following his victory in the Paddy Power Irish Gold Cup on Sunday.
The Gordon Elliot trained horse overcame strong runs from both Kemboy and Presenting Percy to claim the win in Ireland.
Now, Delta Work’s odds have been halved to 4-1 for the Cheltenham Gold Cup next month.
Following the victory Elliot told the Racing Post: “We knew for the last few seasons he’s improved for a run, and it’s all systems go for the [Cheltenham] Gold Cup now.”
Second and third place, Kemboy and Presenting Percy are also in contention for the festival showpiece next month at odds of 6-1 and 10-1 respectively.
Delta Work led the two into the final fence in a tight race before taking the jump and heading over the line to take the win by a length.
The victory gave trainer Elliot a first ever victory in the Irish Gold Cup.
After the win, Elliot is now looking forward to the Cheltenham Gold Cup: “Our horse is improving the whole time and we can dream about a Gold Cup now.
However there is bad news for jockey, Jack Kennedy, who suffered a broken leg in a fall just over an hour after the Paddy Power Irish Gold Cup win.
Kennedy will undergo an operation today with him only just returning to action after a broken collarbone in October.
