CHELTENHAM TOWN: “We aren’t safe yet”- Michael Duff

Michael Duff expressed that his Cheltenham Town side aren’t safe yet in the fight to avoid relegation from Sky Bet League Two.

Cheltenham are 12 points clear of the drop with 9 games remaining, but Michael Duff isn’t relaxing just yet as he aims to motivate his new players.

The Robins travel to Rodney Parade after a confident 4-1 home win against Notts County last Saturday.

Duff said: “We’ve worked far too hard over the last four to five months to get into the position we’re in to just to go we’re alright now

“A) we aren’t alright now, people talking about 15/16 points well it’s already down to 12 now after Tuesday night’s games.

“people are still playing for contracts, it would be foolish as a player to come off it and think we’ll be alright.”

Cheltenham have been in good form recently particularly at home, winning 5 of their last 6 at Whaddon Road, only dropping points against second placed Bury. Duff commented on how the attitude has been  at the club over the last few months.

“There’s more positivity because we’re winning football matches, the group are a good group but I wasn’t sure on the demand on each other.

“I think they were just comfortable bobbing along , thinking we’ll be alright we have too many good players, that sort of scenario and you can’t have that.

Cheltenham go into the game at Newport just four points behind their hosts. Michael Duff commented on their performance so far this season.

He said: ” there’s a really good team ethic, they don’t seem to have any big ego’s, they’ve got a way of playing and they all know their jobs.

“they look like a real together unit, their cup run has been a blessing and a hinderance.

” we need to roll our sleeves up, if we don’t turn up on Friday they can run over the top of you.”
