REACTION: England boss Gareth Southgate gives call-up to Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse

Saints midfielder James Ward-Prowse has been drafted into the England senior side for their upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers.

Manager Gareth Southgate has included the 24-year-old after Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek dropped out of the side due to injury.

Ward-Prowse has been in impressive form of late for Southampton scoring three in his last three games in the Premier League.

The central-midfielder has one senior cap to his name after featuring as a substitute in a friendly match against Germany in 2017.

He has captained the national side at under-21 level and will train today at St George’s Park ahead of the Three Lions qualifiers against Czech Republic and Montenegro.

Manchester City pair John Stones and Fabian Delph have also been withdrawn from the squad due to injury, although there was no place for Leicester City midfielder James Maddison.

The former Coventry City academy product has been a mainstay in a Foxes side who are currently 10th in the table, making 31 appearances this season.
