Chletenham Town manager Michael Duff revealed that he tried signing Nicky Maynard before he joined Tuesday night’s opponents Bury.
The striker joined the Shakers towards the end of September on a short term deal and has scored six goals in eight games for his side.
“He’s scored goals his whole career,” Duff said of the 31-year-old.
“We actually looked at and tried to get him, but he’d already gone to Bury.”
Someone who is familiar with Maynard is Cheltenham striker, Luke Varney.
Varney and Maynard played together for Crewe Alexandra scoring an impressive 44 goals in all competitions between them in the 2006-07 campaign.
Maynard has since become a bit of a journeyman since his time at Crewe, playing for eight different teams in 14 years. His most prolific spell came after a £2.25 million pound move to Bristol City where he scored 45 goals in 124 appearances in all competitions.
He has also briefly played in the Premier League with Cardiff City making eight appearances but failing to score.
