How Gloucestershire’s Sports Stars Have Been Spending the Lockdown

The roar of The Shed at Kingsholm, the sound of the overly enthusiastic stadium announcer at the Jonny-Rocks, and the taste of the Q-Pie at The New Lawn. It all seems like such a distant memory now, doesn’t it?

It’s been over seven weeks since we’ve watched any of our local teams in action. Under normal circumstances. we’d now have known if Michael Duff’s Cheltenham Town snuck into that final automatic spot, or if they’d be preparing for the play-offs.

And who knows, could Forest Green’s 2-0 win away at top-of-the-league Swindon Town have revitalised their season, maybe they might’ve ended up sneaking into the top seven?

As the weeks go on and everyone is doing their bit by staying in doors, we’ve scrolled through social media to see how Gloucestershire’s sports stars are getting on during the lockdown…

Forest Green Rovers

2020 has only got better for FGR attacker George Williams. Following a return from seven months out with a broken ankle, he announced the birth of his second child on Instagram earlier in the month.

And whilst full-back Liam Shephard works on his recovery from injury, he looked back in the archives to his professional debut on loan at Yeovil Town, where he came up against a familiar face at left back for the opposing team…

Cheltenham Town

As our NHS works tirelessly to save lives around the country, Cheltenham Town’s players took a moment out of their day to show their appreciation for the job that is being done…

And some have gone above and beyond! Will Boyle joined his centre-back partner Ben Tozer in braving the shave, with all money raised going towards the NHS.

Over £7000 has been raised already, click HERE for the link to donate to the crowdfunder.

Gloucester Rugby

Switching across to rugby now, but sticking with the support shown for the NHS. Ed Slater joined Boyle and Tozer in shaving his head for charity, and posted the results to Instagram…

Many of us have seen lockdown as a time to learn a new skill, or perfect an old one. Gloucester’s Springbok, Franco Mostert, has used his free time to learn how to play the guitar…

Reading this has probably made you chomping at the bit for sport to return, right? Well, whilst it’s uncertain on when or under what circumstances sport will return, all three local clubs are doing a great job on social media, with a range of full match replays and documentaries across their Facebook and Youtube channels.

Have a look below, and sit tight until this all blows over!
